“Is the spring coming?" he said. "What is it like?"...
"It is the sun shining on the rain and the rain falling on the sunshine...”
Frances Hodgson Burnett  - The Secret Garden

As the pale of Winter begins to fade, join us for a celebration of the emergence of Spring. Immerse yourself in the smells, tastes, colours and textures of the new season through discussion, creative compositions and beautiful seasonal flowers and foliage.

Lifestyle observer Kate Burton welcomes you with a conversation on the trend towards making more time for ourselves, slow living, and the importance of living in the moment. Kate shares her thoughts on how to live a happier life through kinship, conscious living and embracing the seasons.

The inspirations of Spring naturally brings a sense of awakening, today we immerse ourselves in that feeling of emergence with new, creative introductions.

This gentle awakening of senses will start with the production of a beautiful botanical clip board to decorate that quiet, peaceful, corner of your home. Working with a collection of fresh foliage and flowers we begin to create a simple gathering of observed drawings and sketches using a variety of techniques that will support both beginners and those who wish to explore skills and techniques further. Allow your mind to wander and be immersed in thought, as we combine these observations with botanical prints, hand painted papers, old paper ephemera, scented herbs and time worn fabrics. If drawing is not to your liking then you will be encouraged to create a beautiful collage; this part of the workshop is to awaken our visual senses and be taken to a place of calm.  As the seasons pass, you can add to your clip board and record other elements you find inspiring; it is a creative piece of work to hold close, a visual diary.  From hand written notes, prints, found objects, pressed flowers, seed heads, findings from walks and personal photographs.

Time to awaken your palette. Kate will bring the simple principles together from her earlier discussion around a shared table with a light meal based on vibrant Levantine plates of seasonal vegetables and legumes inspired by her travels around Israel and Palestine.

Relax with Kirsty as the heady abundance of Spring flowers take centre stage. Select from a collection of decorative vessels. Interpret the collected foliage and budding branches into a form you instinctively enjoy. Spend an unrushed afternoon studying and selecting each stem, building a wonderfully natural arrangement. Indulge in the process of design as you perfect your floral celebration of Spring.

A longing to connect to this awakening season and a willingness to indulge creatively is all that we ask.
